My name is Dr. Nicole Hall and I am a candidate for the Regional Coordinator for Region 12 in North America. I became a nurse and Sigma Theta Tau member in 2003 and am so pleased with where my nursing degree has taken me over the years, including getting to serve newborns and their families as a maternity nurse for 10 years, teaching in undergraduate and graduate nursing programs for 12 years and a fortunate twist where I worked in the quality department at my hometown hospital for a two year period. It was there that I implemented what I had learned during my MBA about systems thinking, process improvement and project management. My interest in these have only grown and were further developed while completing course work for my Doctorate of Education in Leadership and Management.
I believe my skills of process improvement and project management have helped in my leadership roles as course coordinator, on grant teams and in the seven years I have served as Vice President and President of Lambda Eta, Salisbury University’s chapter of Sigma Theta Tau. I am proud of the work our chapter has achieved over these years with streamlining communications, conducting more efficient meetings, implementing a leadership intern program, creating a subsidy policy for students who find joining difficult for financial reasons, developing officer orientations, and restarting our mentoring program. These initiatives required input from the chapter and collaboration was another skill that I utilized as chapter leader. I believe my ability to facilitate collaboration is quite possibly the most important skill I bring when considering the position of regional coordinator.
I was inspired to run for this position because I have confidence that chapters in our region are doing great work and I want to harness those efforts so that all chapters in Region 12 can benefit. With the past projects I have led in our chapter and my ability to bring people together, I can help chapters learn from one another and capitalize on where successful work has already been done so these can be operationalized for their members as well.
I think that my 20 plus years of experience in various nursing areas including maternity, education, and quality, well qualify me for the role of Regional Coordinator for Region 12 in North America and I would be so very happy to serve Sigma in this important position.
