It is my honor and privilege to be nominated for the position of region 11 coordinator.
I am not new to Sigma or leadership positions within this incredible organization. I was inducted into Sigma 39 years ago. I have since had the opportunity to join the Mu Alpha chapter of Lenior-Rhyne University where I served as Secretary, President elect, and President. While serving as president we held many student-centered activities to assist with stress during exams and NCLEX preparation. Prior to leaving NC I was working on enlisting newly inducted students to assist with programming and service projects. We were also collaborating with the student nurses’ association for several other projects. While at the University of Pittsburgh I served as secretary for 2 terms.
At the 2023 biennium I was elected as region 11 coordinator. I feel I have learned a great deal about the workings of this position in the last 2 years. I feel this learning process will allow me to be much more effective in the coming biennium. My plan for the upcoming biennium is to have town meetings which have guest speakers and specific topics such as “budgets” and “key award” information. I have enlisted the assistance of a great coordination committee and will be seeking more members at the biennium. Our main focus during the next biennium will be to create a regional event. In the past two years I have had the opportunity to visit a few chapters, attend inductions, and attend a collaborative presentation event in Buffalo. My goal is to visit many more in the next biennium.
I feel my passion and commitment to nursing and Sigma will assist me in this pursuit. I also feel my past and current leadership positions will also assist me in the years to come.
I am passionate about the care our patients receive and advocate for patients and our team. As senior staff nurse I have had the opportunity to create patient education information related to pre-procedure medication instructions. I have also streamlined the collection of patient information for post-procedure follow-up phone calls. In addition, I serve on the Passavant PPC and Magnet Champions committee. I hold certifications as a Clinical Nurse Leader (CNL) and Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE). During my tenure at the University of Pittsburgh, I participated in various school of nursing councils and chaired the School of Nursing Policy and Bylaws Committee. Furthermore, I represented the School of Nursing on the University of Pittsburgh Faculty Senate Student Admissions, Aid, and Affairs Committee as a member and then co-chair.
I also served as a member of the Post-Baccalaureate RN Residency Steering Committee at the VA, where I developed and provided preceptor training for the same project. As a member of the committee, I also offered insight and assistance in obtaining CCNE accreditation for this program.
It would be my honor and privilege to continue to serve the wonderful leaders and chapters of region 11 during the next biennium.
