Regional Coordinator (RC) - Africa

Sylvia Oger Ofosu Dwamena

PHD, MN, RN, BSC, PGDE, FGCNM

It is a great honour to serve, and I am highly honoured to be on the ballot for the regional coordinator position for the African Region. I have been a Registered Nurse (clinical and education) for the past seventeen (17) years. I also have experience in leadership. This comprises the Sigma Community facilitator for the Medical Surgical Community, Acting Regional First Vice Chairperson, Western Region, Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA), Chairperson, Research and Publication Committee, Nursing and Midwifery Training College, Sekondi and Director. West Nurse Consult (Accredited Institution by the Nursing and Midwifery Council for organising continuous professional development training for nurses/ midwives) in Ghana.

I am a nurse educator at one of the Nursing and Midwifery Training Colleges in Ghana. My duties include teaching and assessing, mentoring and coaching young and upcoming nurses, among others. I have been a role model and mentor to hundreds of young and upcoming nurses.

At the international level, I have served on the Board of Directors, as a Key Award Task Force member and judge, Charter Review Task Force member, and as a volunteer moderator and greeter at Sigma conferences. I also serve as a career mentor through Sigma's global mentorship program, supporting the development of future nurse leaders.

In terms of qualifications, I have a PhD in Nursing, a Master of Nursing, a BSc in Nursing, and a Diploma in Nursing. I am a resilient and self-motivated person. I am part of the Sigma Global Leadership Mentoring Community as a mentee and also the current regional coordinator for Africa. Throughout my career, I have empowered, supported, led, and coached nurses to be the best leaders of their fields. I am a highly driven, well-organised, and compassionate leader.

My motivation for standing again for the second term as a regional coordinator stems from the fact that my first term in office was a great learning experience. I believe the exposure I had in the last two years, coupled with the mentoring I received from the Global Mentoring Leadership Community, has prepared me for the task ahead. I believe these experiences that I will bring on board will help increase the global visibility of the African Region. I passionately believe in a global nursing and that with my service, Sigma can play a significant role in the context of global health. As Sigma continues to grow its membership worldwide, especially in Africa, I would work to make sure it remains relevant and responsive.

It would be a great honour to be considered for the role of regional coordinator, Africa region, for the second term.

Thank you.
