Leadership Succession Committee - Two-Year Term

DeLisa Cofer

PhD, MSN, RN

Hello, my name is DeLisa Cofer, and I am honored to be a candidate on the 2025 international ballot for the position of Leadership Succession Committee (2-year term). I bring 20 years of professional experience in nursing, with the last 12 years dedicated to nursing education, preparing future nurses through evidence-based instruction and a strong commitment to mentoring both students and faculty. My journey has been grounded in leadership, service, and advocacy, all of which aligns with the core values and mission of Sigma.

Throughout my career, I have held leadership roles in clinical practice and academia. I currently serve as Assistant Dean of Undergraduate Nursing Programs at Widener University in Chester, Pennsylvania, where I lead initiatives focused on student retention, academic success and faculty development.  These roles have allowed me to apply strategic thinking, foster inclusive environments, and support professional growth, hallmarks of effective leadership in nursing education.

Since joining Sigma in 2017, I have remained an active and engaged member. I have had the privilege of serving in various leadership roles with Sigma including President-Elect of the Eta Beta Chapter (2022-2024), Leadership Succession Chair of the Eta Beta Chapter (2019-2022), as well as on Sigma’s Nurse Leader Review Committee (2019-2022). Currently, I serve as President of the Eta Beta Chapter in Chester, Pennsylvania, where I lead initiatives to increase membership engagement, reactivate lapsed memberships, implement new programs, and build strong collaborations with local Sigma chapters and community partners. I believe that these efforts have strengthen our chapter’s outreach in the community, enhanced the member experience, and will continue to have a long-term impact on the nursing profession and our community.

My leadership philosophy is grounded in building authentic relationships, supporting emerging leaders, and creating inclusive pathways for involvement. I consider myself an ambitious, organized, and compassionate leader who advocates for and empowers students, faculty, and professional nurses alike. I believe that developing strong connections within our Sigma community is essential to identifying and nurturing the next generation of nurse leaders.

If elected to the Leadership Succession Committee, I will offer strategic guidance to ensure that members identified as future leaders are supported, mentored, and well-positioned to advance nursing excellence globally. I am excited about the opportunity to contribute at this level and would be honored to serve.

Thank you for your consideration.
