I have been a proud member of Sigma since 2009. I am a Doctor of Nursing and have had the honor of serving Sigma in multiple leadership roles: Secretary of my country’s chapter for two terms, Chapter President for one term, and Regional Coordinator for Latin America and the Caribbean for one term. Each of these experiences has deepened my commitment to Sigma’s mission and reinforced my belief in our collective potential as nurse leaders.
To me, Sigma is more than a professional organization; it is a lifelong resource and a global platform for advancing nursing excellence. I see Sigma as a living network of professionals who, through shared values and coordinated efforts, can amplify our impact on healthcare and society. As members, we are called not only to benefit from this network but to actively contribute to it by leading with purpose and collaborating with vision.
I am seeking election to the Leadership Succession Committee because I am convinced that our organization is rich with talent, vision, and potential. Identifying, nurturing, and elevating emerging leaders, particularly through a collaborative and inclusive lens, is essential for sustaining Sigma’s global renown and driving its strategic growth. Leadership development must be intentional, equitable, and rooted in mentorship, and I am deeply committed to this work.
In Colombia, I serve as the national lead of the Latin American Network on Chronic Patient and Family Care, which currently includes 33 research nodes across the country. I also lead the "Cuidando a los Cuidadores" (Caring for the Caregivers) program, a long-standing initiative that has benefited more than 4,000 caregivers over the past 20 years. Through this program, I have witnessed firsthand the power of nursing leadership to transform communities and improve health outcomes.
In my role as head of the Chronic Conditions Research Group, I mentor undergraduate and graduate students, fostering a culture of inquiry, ethics, and collaborative leadership. I believe deeply in the power of mentorship to shape the next generation of nurse leaders—leaders who are not only clinically and academically prepared but also socially engaged and globally connected.
If elected, I will bring to the Leadership Succession Committee my dedication to Sigma’s mission, my experience in strategic leadership, and my unwavering belief in the strength of our collective. Together, we can ensure that Sigma remains a beacon of excellence, innovation, and impact in global nursing.
Thank you for the opportunity to serve.
