Leadership Succession Committee - Four-Year Term

Kimberly Velez

MSN, RN

Sigma Theta Tau International’s mission to develop nurse leaders who transform global healthcare continues to guide my professional journey. Since being inducted as a Nurse Leader in 2012, I, Kimberly Velez, MSN, RN, have remained dedicated to Sigma’s values, and I am honored to seek re-election to the Leadership Succession Committee 4-year term.

I proudly served on the Leadership Succession Committee from 2021 to 2023, an experience that deepened my commitment to identifying candidates who reflect the broad spectrum of Sigma’s global membership. I believe leadership must represent the many pathways, backgrounds, and strengths within our profession.

Currently, I serve as a Senior Clinical Informatics Nurse, with over 20 years of experience spanning emergency care, PACU, float pool, and leadership roles in both public and private institutions. I specialize in integrating technology to improve care delivery.

Academically, I hold a Master’s in Nursing Executive Leadership, with post-graduate certificates in Nursing Informatics and Nursing Education, and plans to pursue a Doctor of Nursing Practice.

I remain an active member of four Sigma chapters, Omicron Delta, Psi Tau, Mu Upsilon, and Alpha Omega, where I served as Vice President. I also serve as Secretary for the American Nurses Association–NY, Immediate Past-President of NACLI, and Past Treasurer and mentor for the ANIA Tri-State Chapter. I contributed 14 years as an Auxiliary Member of the New York State Board for Nursing, participating in regulatory hearings and public advocacy.

My leadership experience across national, state, and local levels—along with extensive committee work in nominations and bylaws has strengthened my ability to help build a well-rounded, forward-looking ballot for Sigma. A highlight of my service includes the Culture of Care Committee with Alpha Omega, an initiative rooted in compassion and collaboration that earned GAPFON recognition at a past biennium. Additionally, I collaborated with Omicron Delta’s Writing for Publication workgroup on a manuscript aimed at raising awareness about the role of AI and technology in nursing.

These leadership roles across national, state, and local platforms—along with years of committee work in nominating and bylaws have strengthened my ability to help build a well-rounded, forward-looking ballot for Sigma. A highlight of my service includes the Culture of Care Committee with Alpha Omega, which received GAPFON recognition at a previous biennium—an effort grounded in compassion and collaboration. I also participated in creating a manuscript in Omicron Delta’s ‘Writing for Publication’ workgroup to bring awareness about Artificial Intelligence and technology in nursing. My motto, “Strive to be better tomorrow than you are today,” aligns with the call to action - Represent. It reflects the goal of inspiring nurses within Sigma to pursue excellence and rise to the challenge of elected leadership.

If re-elected, I will continue to support Sigma in fostering leadership pathways.

Please cast your vote for Kimberly Velez, MSN, RN, for re-election to the Leadership Succession Committee 4-year.
