Leadership Succession Committee - Four-Year Term

Carolyn Sue-Ling

PhD, MPA

It is an honor to serve in Sigma and a privilege to be selected on the ballot for the office of Leadership Succession for a four-year term. I am most grateful to the nominating committee for selecting me to serve in this prestigious organization and I am excited about the opportunity to contribute and ready to fulfill the responsibilities if selected.

I have held several Sigma leadership roles and have chaired the Leadership Succession, Counselor, and Research and Scholarship of Phi Lambda chapter. As the chair for the Counselor Committee for Phi Lambda, I recruited eligible students to join the Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing and held informative sessions outlining the purpose and role of the organization. I chaired the Scholarship and Awards Committee and whose duties were to select eligible recipients and present them before the board for inclusion. In addition, I served on Alpha Xi Governor Committee. In this position as Governor, I reviewed bylaws and sought input from the committee regarding amendments and/or revisions to the bylaws. Our chapter was tasked with advancing and celebrating nursing excellence in scholarship, leadership, and service. As a result, I recognized superior achievements in nursing among a diverse group of members and encouraged leadership development by fostering higher nursing standards. Also, I had the privilege of selected to serve on the Nurse International Nurse Leader Review Committee (2023 - 2025) and plan to serve an additional two years. In 2021, I served as a moderate for several sessions at the Biennial. I also served as a delegate 2019 and 2021.

These roles have enabled me to understand the importance of having effective governance and accountability that is required for an officer in the administrative center of Leadership Succession. The leadership skills that I developed would allow me to serve in national and international positions where I would seek opportunities that will contribute to leadership, governance, and networking skills to advance Sigma’s global mission for nursing and healthcare. I believe that I have the experience, time, and oversight to fulfill the obligations for the office of Leadership Succession.

I am a highly motivated, organized, and compassionate person who has spent years developing supportive skills while coaching nurses to be the best educators, kindhearted caregivers, and leaders of care. The opportunity to engage with other leaders of the Sigma organization and discuss important issues is welcomed. I know that the election process for the office of Leadership Succession focuses on finding qualified and committed individuals, demonstrating Sigma's commitment to strong leadership. If given the privilege to serve, the role would be approached with objectivity, ethical conduct, and a deep understanding of the organization's mission and goals. The opportunity to serve through dedicated service, whether as a member or an elected official, is highly anticipated, and it would be an honor to be selected for a Leadership Succession position. I am excited about the opportunity to contribute and ready to fulfill the responsibilities if selected.
