Leadership Succession Committee - Four-Year Term

Carrie Hintz

DNP, PhD, RN, CEN

I am honored to submit my candidacy for a four-year term on the Leadership Succession Committee. With over two decades of nursing experience across clinical, academic, and leadership domains, I would bring a depth of perspective, dedication to mentorship, and a strategic mindset well-suited to the mission of this committee.

As a long-standing academic leader at the Orvis School of Nursing, I currently serve as the Post-Master's DNP Program Coordinator, and was recently promoted to the rank of full Professor. I have taught across graduate and undergraduate programs, chaired capstone and doctoral committees, and held significant faculty governance roles, including as a Faculty Senator and Senate Executive Board Member. My involvement in leadership development and mentorship spans institutional and national levels, reflecting my ongoing commitment to shaping the future of nursing and academic leadership.

My experience aligns strongly with the core responsibilities of the Leadership Succession Committee. I have actively mentored faculty, students, and nurse leaders into governance, administrative, and service roles - not only through formal academic channels but also through my work with Sigma. It has been a pleasure to serve as Nu Iota Chapter President since 2019, where I have been fortunate to contribute to regional conference planning and volunteering at the Biennium Conferences. My leadership style emphasizes transparency, collaboration, and the intentional development of others.

In support of succession planning, I have served on numerous high-level search committees, including those for a university president, assistant vice president/chief of police, and school of nursing dean. I have also served as a mentor to pre-licensure nursing students at a local community college. These experiences have sharpened my ability to identify leadership qualities that align with institutional mission and values, prepare clear and comprehensive nomination materials, and ensure equity and inclusion in candidate selection.

Beyond these formal roles, I bring a strong background in professional governance, campaign oversight, and education. I have reviewed award nominations at the national level for AACN, judged academic scholarship competitions, and contributed peer reviews for several journals and textbooks. I have also chaired and participated in university-level committees involving academic standards, integrity, and student conduct - all of which require confidentiality, fairness, and critical thinking.

My doctoral work in nursing research, paired with my earlier DNP and MSN in leadership, provides me with a solid foundation in both evidence-based practice and systems-level thinking. I view leadership development not just as a pipeline, but as a process of empowerment - one that begins with education and mentorship and extends into sustained, mission-driven service.

It would be a privilege to bring this experience to the Leadership Succession Committee. If elected, I will work diligently to support transparent succession planning, mentor the next generation of leaders, and contribute meaningfully to the development of our organization's future.

Thank you for your consideration and for the opportunity to serve.
