Governance Committee - Two-Year Term

Charlotte Swint

DNP, MPH, FNP-BC, CNE

Greetings! I am seeking a two-year term on the Governance Committee. Each biennium, Sigma members and delegates have the opportunity to look towards the future as they choose leaders for our organization. I have been honored to serve a two-year term on the Governance Committee during the 2023-2025 biennium. During my time on the Governance Committee, I have contributed my knowledge and expertise to discussions about policies, procedures, and potential bylaws changes.

I would like to share with you why I am running for a two-year position on the Governance Committee. Sigma has been a pivotal organization for me as a nurse. Participating in Sigma’s Nurse Faculty Leadership Academy as a Scholar from 2015-2017 was one of the most impactful programs I have had the good fortune to experience. The leadership skills and mentoring invigorated my career path in nursing education.

My relationship with Sigma began with my induction in 1996 and includes membership in chapters at Vanderbilt University, The University of Alabama, Clayton State University, and Frontier Nursing University. I have been the president of the Xi Rho Chapter, and I am the current president of the Chi Pi Chapter. I have served as a chapter delegate and membership counselor for these chapters.

I have experience in the governance of national nursing organizations as I am the Bylaws and Policies Chair for the American Association for the History of Nursing. During my service as the chair, I led the project to revise the Policies Manual for the organization.

One of my passions is health policy education. As a part of the National Organization for Nurse Practitioner Faculties (NONPF), I was a founder of the Health Policy Education Special Interest Group, which focuses on best practices in health policy education. I was a co-editor of A Tool Kit: Integration of Health Policy Education Throughout the DNP Nurse Practitioner Curricula, which was published in 2022.

At Frontier Nursing University, I am an Associate Professor of Nursing. I teach the ethics and health policy course in the Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program. I am the co-chair of the Mission and Philosophy Committee and the Research Committee. I have been named a Daisy Nursing Faculty Award winner.

I am a Family Nurse Practitioner living in the United States in McDonough, Georgia. I visit patients in their homes in my community to complete their annual health assessments.

Sigma is a global organization, and Sigma’s involvement with the United Nations inspired me to join the United Nations Association for the United States. I have done advocacy work with different health groups that are a part of the Association to expand funding for global health issues.

If I am lucky enough to be elected, I will work to ensure that the organization operates in a fair and equitable way. All our members worldwide should feel that their best interests are represented. I want to foster partnerships and collaboration to advance the mission of Sigma. I am truly excited about serving on Sigma’s Governance Committee!
