I am honored to submit my candidacy for a two-year term on the Governance Committee. I have over 35 years of clinical practice and leadership in diverse health care settings, with over two decades of board leadership experience and a focused commitment and responsibility to organizational governance. This includes partnering with a leading hospital in Dayton Ohio to start a home health infusion service line, working in management of research-based community health maternal-infant program and administration of a large home health care organization. Therefore, I am confident in my knowledge and ability to contribute strategically to Sigma Theta Tau’s (Sigma) governance committee and to uphold Sigma’s mission, vision, values, and priorities.
I served on the Ohio Council for Home and Hospice Care board for 8 years, including four years on its Governance Committee and two years as Chair. In that capacity, I helped shape board development, analyzed impending laws, executed State policies based on a commissioned financial report, and supported implementing best practices to strengthen the organization's advocacy to benefit Ohioans receiving home health care. I have been President of Zeta Phi from 2021-2025, during which Zeta Phi became an at-Large Chapter in 2023 adding Kettering College and Wittenberg University with plans to add Cedarville University in April 2026. I successfully completed the submission of Zeta Phi’s Chapter Key Awards in 2021 and 2023.
I bring experience from my tenure on the board of Zeta Phi at-Large, where I served four years on the Governance Committee from 2018-2022 — two of which as Chair—overseeing the governing body's functions and reviewing and updating the chapter's bylaws. Combined with my doctorates in organizational and global leadership, these experiences have deepened my expertise in policy development, regulatory compliance, and governance—empowering me with the confidence to serve judiciously on Sigma’s Governance Committee.
I am deeply committed to Sigma’s mission of developing nurse leaders everywhere to improve health globally. This dedication is reflected in my role as a Mentor in Sigma’s inaugural mentoring program. Building on that experience, I successfully launched a mentoring initiative for Zeta Phi in 2022, modeled on Sigma’s approved framework. Since 2021, I have served as a Community Facilitator for research. In recognition of my contributions, Sigma honored me in 2022 as their top volunteer.
I am a servant leader and lead by a conviction of servant leadership, which emphasizes a leader’s commitment to serving the needs of others, fostering a culture of empowerment, open communication, collaboration, and ethical behavior. My journey from a bedside nurse to a nurse researcher has shown me how governance frameworks can empower nurses or stifle innovation. My goal is to contribute to the success of Sigma and its Governance Committee by cultivating a culture of excellence, advocacy, and sustainable global impact.
If selected, I will bring dedication, discernment, ethical behavior, and a proven history of impactful service to this role. I humbly request your support in this election. Thank you for considering my candidacy and your dedication to advancing professional excellence in nursing worldwide.
