As a nurse leader, educator, and advocate, I am honored to seek the role of Director for Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing. My professional journey is grounded in service, scholarship, inclusive leadership, and a global commitment to advancing nursing through governance, mentorship, and evidence-based action.
I currently serve as Associate Professor of Clinical Nursing and Assistant Dean of Clinical Nursing Education at LSU Health Sciences Center New Orleans and as Nurse Researcher at Manning Family Children's Hospital New Orleans. I am also the Region 6 Coordinator for Sigma, where I led our inaugural Region 6 conference, uniting clinicians and scholars to elevate nursing science and evidence-based practice. We were honored to welcome Sigma's 35th International President, Dr. Sandra Bibb, as keynote speaker.
I've been a proud member of Sigma for nearly 20 years. I am a charter member and past president of the Tau Pi Chapter and a past president of the Epsilon Nu at-Large Chapter. I've served in every chapter leadership role, giving me a comprehensive understanding of chapter operations and governance, insight that has enhanced my effectiveness as Sigma's Region 6 coordinator. I also helped develop Epsilon Nu's mentorship program, supporting undergraduate and graduate students, as well as nurse leaders, in building leadership capacity within the chapter and beyond.
Through Sigma's Virtual Mini-Academy: Global Advocacy, I now work with nurses across the globe to strengthen their leadership and advocacy skills. This reflects my passion for creating cross-border collaborations and lifting nursing voices internationally.
Beyond Sigma, I serve as Director at Large for the National Black Nurses Association. I also served six years on the Board of Trustees for CrescentCare, a Federally Qualified Health Center, including three years as Co-Chair. As President of the Louisiana State Nurses Association (March 2023-March 2025), I've championed policy and workforce initiatives affecting over 66,000 nurses across the state. I'm also active on national advisory bodies, including ANA's NextGen Advisory Committee, ANA's Professional Policy Committee, NBNA's Bylaws Committee, and others. These experiences have strengthened my capacity in board governance, strategic planning, and health policy. Core competencies I believe are vital to the Director role.
Most recently, I was honored to be accepted into the 2025 cohort of the American Academy of Nursing Fellows, a recognition of my contributions to leadership, policy, and workforce development.
If elected, I will focus and support initiatives on:
-
Policy, Governance, and Scholarship by leveraging my board experience to support Sigma's strategic priorities, sound governance, and advancement of nursing science.
Sigma has played a critical role in developing who I am as a nurse leader. I bring a holistic view of chapter operations, advocacy, leadership, mentorship, and governance expertise to help guide Sigma's continued global impact. It would be an honor to serve as your Director.
