Therapy dogs

We will have special visitors at our registration/exhibit area located in the Mardi Gras Foyer on Friday, 22 February, from 10:30-11:30 a.m. (1030-1130). Therapy dogs from the Visiting Pet Program in New Orleans will be on-site “Bringing Love and Leaving Smiles,” as their motto says.

Cake and Canvas

Cake and Canvas

Attendees will have an opportunity to channel both their creative and philanthropic sides by participating in a canvas painting session while enjoying cake! You don’t have to be an artist to paint in this session, as a professional artist will guide participants every stroke of the way. Paintings will then be donated to a local charity to give back to the host community of this event. Advanced registration required and limited seating is available. All supplies included with US $50 painting session fee. Email events@sigmanursing.org to register.

Service Project

Service Project

Lions and Tigers and Bears, oh my!

This presentation offers an interactive, productive, bonding experience, that focuses on team building and increasing personal and professional satisfaction, plus fulfills the innate caring response of the nurse while completing a service project. Come prepared to roll up your sleeves, make some friends, take some pictures, have some laughs and assemble some lions and tigers and bears for the “Stuffed Animals for Emergencies” (SAFE) program. These new plush animals will be donated to children through the New Orleans Women & Children's Shelter. This project is sponsored by the Phi Pi Chapter of Sigma.

Mindfulness

Replenish at Work

Micro-Restorative Practices to Promote Well-Being

Mindful awareness lends an opportunity for skillful response to self-care and guides us to engage in healthy behaviors to optimize our health and well-being. During this 45-minute session, we will introduce the skills of mindfulness and discuss how we can utilize them to gain insight into the physical, mental, and emotional states of our bodies. We will do experiential exercises to explore self-reflection, release tension with gentle yoga stretches that can be incorporated into the workday, and use the breath with guided imagery to cultivate a state of deep relaxation.

Mindfulness

Connecting Through Mindfulness Meditation

Find your zen.

During this session, attendees will explore mindfulness as a concept and a practice for those experienced or unfamiliar with the topic. Attendees will be introduced to the history and implementations of mindfulness in Western research, health care, and culture. Following discussion, attendees will be guided through a brief mindfulness meditation practice.
