INDIANAPOLIS — The Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing (Sigma) announced the 2022 Nurse Empowerment Program, a large-scale program developed in partnership with the Johnson & Johnson Foundation to help frontline nurses grow their leadership skills. The self-paced program offers frontline nurses the opportunity to earn nursing continuing professional development credit by taking course work that can enhance their professional development and success.
The 2022 Nurse Empowerment Program offers a curated set of LinkedIn Learning and Sigma courses that address eight competencies: leadership development, effective communication skills, dealing with conflict, healthy work environments, diversity, change management, team science, and resilience. Thanks to the Johnson & Johnson Foundation, the 2022 Nurse Empowerment Program is offered free of charge to frontline registered nurses in the United States and Canada.
The 2022 Nurse Empowerment Program was based on the highly successful pilot initiative featured in LinkedIn Learning’s 2021 Workplace Learning Report.
- Pilot participants who responded to project surveys showed statistically significant increases for 16 of 17 self-reported leadership abilities;
- Nearly 99% of participants reported having applied new or improved abilities;
- Those who completed Sigma’s nursing-specific program components reported increased application of leadership abilities;
- Approximately two-thirds of survey respondents attributed nursing career advancement at least in part to the program; and, perhaps most significantly,
- Survey respondents’ resilience score showed a statistically significant increase after program completion.
“We are excited to partner once again with the Johnson & Johnson Foundation on this project that has a demonstrated benefit to frontline nurses,” said Sigma CEO Elizabeth Madigan, PhD, RN, FAAN. “We continue to support our clinical nurses as we seek to better understand the value, relevance, and effectiveness of these courses in helping prepare them for leadership.”
“We have been so honored to have the opportunity to partner with Sigma and the Johnson and Johnson Foundation on this Leadership education project,” said Kathleen Bradley, DNP, RN, NEA-BC, Stanford’s Associate Chief Nursing Officer (ACNO). “A variety of clinical nurse leaders from new graduates to advanced practice providers have used these courses to learn and grow their leadership capabilities. Some have ascended to formal nurse leadership roles, while others have put these valuable skills to use in their unit teams.”
The 2022 Nurse Empowerment Program begins 14 March 2022, and applications are due on 1 April 2022. Registration is required to receive free access to the free Sigma and LinkedIn Learning courses.
