Today, we’re sharing our first joint leadership update—an example of the close collaboration that is guiding Sigma’s direction and the momentum we’re building together for our members and the global nursing community.
A season of momentum and connection
The past few months have been filled with meaningful progress and celebration. At our 48th Biennial Convention in Indianapolis, we welcomed Sigma members and nurses from around the world to learn, connect, and celebrate excellence together. During this
event, we publicly launched Sigma Forward, our multi-year
strategic framework that guides how we will connect, elevate, advocate, and align our efforts to strengthen the global nursing community and advance Sigma’s vision to transform global healthcare.
Convention also marked an important leadership transition and we unveiled the organizational call to action, Lead Together—an invitation for every member to actively shape the future of Sigma and our profession through collaboration and collective power focused on our voice, value and impact.
In the months since convention, we’ve felt a growing sense of momentum across the organization. Members and volunteers are engaging in new ways, and we’re making steady progress on investments in technology and global outreach to better support
our community.
Strengthening engagement and opportunity
In the spirit of expanding pathways for involvement, a key priority of Sigma Forward, we issued a global call for volunteers. More than 300 members expressed interest in serving, bringing fresh perspectives and new energy to our work. Many of these
volunteers are now contributing through the newly established Future of Membership, Chapters, and Regions Task Force, alongside our boards, committees, and other task forces. We look forward to celebrating all volunteers during Volunteer Week
next month.
We also remain deeply committed to supporting nurses across every stage of their careers. Recent highlights include:
Expanding global reach and influence
Sigma continues to be present and active across the nursing and healthcare landscape. Over the past few months, we connected with members and partners at key nursing events and welcomed
new UN liaisons and youth representatives who help elevate the voice of nursing on the global stage. (The UN program is made possible through the generosity of donors to the Sigma Foundation for Nursing’s Future Fund.)
We’re also proud to continue expanding learning opportunities. The Nurse Learning Exchange,
delivered in partnership with 16 nursing organizations and with support from the Johnson & Johnson Foundation, now offers more than 50 free contact hours. (You can sign up until 30 April!) Sigma also hosts ongoing webinars and produces professional development courses designed to support nurses throughout their careers.
Looking ahead
In the weeks ahead, we’ll gather in Washington, DC, USA, for Creating Healthy Work Environments,
along with in-person meetings for Regional Coordinators, the Sigma Board of Directors, and the Building Task Force as they continue evaluating the future of the Center for Nursing Scholarship (Sigma’s headquarters building). You’ll
also find a Sigma presence at events like the American Association of Colleges of Nursing’s (AACN) Deans Annual Meeting, AONL’s Inspiring Leaders Conference, the National Student Nurses’ Association Annual Convention, and the
American Association of Critical-Care Nurses’ National Teaching Institute. If you’re attending one of those events, stop by our booth to grab a “Sigma Member” ribbon to wear proudly.
We’re also preparing to launch a new free online course that is focused on prioritizing well-being for nurses responding to disasters, and Sigma representatives will co-present at the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women on workplace violence affecting women, including those in nursing.
