New Sigma title helps guide APRNs through ethical quandaries in all healthcare settings

Ethical Case Studies for Advanced Practice Nurses coverINDIANAPOLIS—When dilemmas occur in a healthcare setting and the choice is not clear-cut, quality care, clinical outcomes, and relationships may suffer. The newest title from Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing (Sigma), Ethical Case Studies for Advanced Practice Nurses, helps nurses address ethical dilemmas that can occur in any healthcare setting.

Authors Amber L. Vermeesch, Patricia H. Cox, Inga M. Giske, and Katherine M. Roberts use key conflicts common to advanced practice nursing to encourage nurses to reflect and think through the ethical, moral, and legal aspects of each dilemma using a public health framework. Over the course of more than 20 case studies, such as substance use in pregnancy, elder-care issues, depression screening in adolescents, and more, this book guides APRNs to use critical thinking to make ethically sound decisions.

“As APRNs, I believe we all have the ability to help people in a way that preserves our morals and values as well as theirs,” said author Kate Roberts. “It just takes practice, patience, and perseverance.”
