A readable, practical, and user-friendly guide to apply and implement EBP

“I thought it was impossible to top the first edition of Evidence-Based Practice in Action, but the authors have done it! This new edition is essential for all who want to deliver evidence-based care. Beautifully organized, it is readable, practical, and user-friendly. Based on the Iowa Model and grounded in evaluation and implementation frameworks, this edition targets local needs and care contexts. I love the bulleted tips and key points, real-world examples, and tools at the conclusion of each chapter. Readers will, too!”
—Kathleen C. Buckwalter, PhD, RN, FAAN
Professor Emerita, University of Iowa College of Nursing Distinguished Nurse Scientist in Aging,

INDIANAPOLIS—Since the first edition of Evidence-Based Practice in Action: Comprehensive Strategies, Tools, and Tips From University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics was published in 2017, the need for evidence-based practice (EBP) has only become more critical. Authors Laura Cullen, Kirsten Hanrahan, Michele Farrington, Sharon Tucker, and Stephanie Edmonds use their decades of EBP experience and research about implementation to assist students and frontline clinicians, from novice to expert, to realize the goal of sustainable EBP in healthcare.

The second edition of Evidence-Based Practice in Action follows the EBP process laid out in The Iowa Model Revised: Evidence-Based Practice to Promote Excellence in Health Care©, which is the most frequently used model in Magnet® facilities. However, because all EBP process models include the same basic steps, this book will be useful regardless of the EBP model. In this edition, readers will find groundbreaking new content, including patient engagement in every step; an evidence funnel approach that flips the traditional pyramid; new EBP Evaluation Framework; revised implementation strategies with clinician and patient examples; and many new EBP tools, tips, and examples in each chapter.

Evidence-Based Practice in Action is the only book that encompasses the EBP process, provides frameworks for EBP evaluation and implementation, and incorporates patients throughout. It is sure to inspire readers to use the EBP process, think creatively, and engage patients in co-design for improved outcomes.
