Sigma Nursing to recognize four honorary members at 48th Biennial Convention

INDIANAPOLIS — Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing (Sigma) is proud to announce the recognition of four distinguished individuals as Honorary Members during its 48th Biennial Convention, to be held 8-11 November 2025 in Indianapolis, Indiana, USA.

Honorary membership is one of Sigma’s most prestigious recognitions, reserved for leaders outside the nursing profession who have demonstrated sustained, extraordinary contributions to healthcare at the global or national level. Since its establishment in 1976, only a select number of individuals have been honored with this lifetime recognition.

“These new Honorary Members embody the very spirit of Sigma’s mission—advancing world health and celebrating the transformative power of nursing,” said Sigma CEO Lucas M. Davis, MEd, CAE. “Each of them has, in their own way, lifted up nurses and strengthened the systems in which we work. By welcoming them into our Sigma family, we not only honor their achievements, but also affirm the vital connections between nursing and every sector of health and society. Their vision and commitment inspire us to continue building a future where nurses thrive and patients everywhere benefit.”

With this recognition, Sigma underscores its belief that advancing nursing and healthcare requires the collaboration of leaders across professions, disciplines, and borders. Together, these honorary members and Sigma’s global community of nurses exemplify the organization’s vision: connected, empowered nurse leaders transforming global healthcare.

“Huge congratulations Sigma Honorary Members. Welcome to the Sigma Nursing global community of difference makers. We are beyond grateful for your representation of Sigma excellence and collaboration through your everyday lives and tremendous contributions to advancing healthcare and changing lives,” said Sigma President Sandra C. Garmon Bibb, DNSc, RN, FFNMRCSI, FAAN. “It is our great honor to extend honorary membership into Sigma as we say thank you for showing love, having courage, and upholding honor. Well done!”
