Mastering Simulation: A Handbook for Success, Second Edition by Janice Palaganas, Beth Ulrich, and Beth Mancini received second place in the Medical-Surgical category. This fully revised second edition guides students and practitioners in developing clinical competencies and provides a solid foundation for improving patient outcomes. As noted by reviewer Christopher A. VanFosson, PhD, MHA, RN, “[T]his text expertly guides the reader to success in simulation.”

Building a Culture of Ownership in Healthcare: The Invisible Architecture of Core Values, Attitude, and Self-Empowerment, Second Edition by Joe Tye and Bob Dent received third place in the Nursing Management and Leadership category. In this second edition, Tye and Dent keep with their construction metaphor to illustrate a healthcare organization’s structure and expand coverage of the importance of culture assessment, transformational leadership, and more. Reviewer Rose O. Sherman, EdD, RN, NEA-BC, FAAN comments that this book “is easy to read and lends itself to use as a book club choice for leadership teams.”

"We couldn’t be happier that AJN reviewers have included Sigma publications in their Book of the Year Awards for 12 years running. It shows the consistent quality of authors we work with and the high bar they set for each other year after year," said Sigma Publisher, Dustin Sullivan. "2020’s awarded authors include several repeat AJN winners, which thrills us even more. Congratulations to them as well as our outstanding publishing team at Sigma!"
