Sigma Nursing applauds nurses as America’s most trusted professionals for the 24th consecutive year

INDIANAPOLIS, IN USA (20 January 2026) — Sigma Nursing proudly announces that nurses have once again been named the most trusted professionals in Gallup’s Most Honest and Ethical Professions Poll—marking an extraordinary 24 consecutive years at the top of the rankings.

This unprecedented recognition affirms what patients, families, and communities experience every day: nurses lead with integrity, compassion, and accountability across every corner of healthcare.

“As a nurse, I know first-hand that trust is earned through quality care,” said Liz Westcott, DCaM, MSc, DipMan, RNT, RN, FFNMRCSI, President of Sigma Nursing. “I am honored to represent nurses around the world whose commitment to patients and communities defines what professionalism truly means. For 24 years, the public has recognized what we see daily—nurses lead with integrity, act with purpose, and deliver care that changes lives.”

Gallup’s annual survey measures public perceptions of honesty and ethical standards across major professions. For nearly a quarter of a century, nurses have consistently ranked first—outpacing every other profession. Sigma Nursing views this milestone as both a celebration and a call to action: By leading together, we can continue advancing excellence in practice, education, research, and leadership worldwide.

“Across healthcare settings and around the world, nurses consistently demonstrate why trust in our profession endures,” said Jennifer Bodine, DNP, MHA, NPDA-BC®, CEN, Interim Chief Nursing Officer of Sigma Nursing. “This recognition reflects the daily commitment of nurses to provide safe, ethical, and compassionate care. It is an honor and a responsibility we take seriously.”

That commitment is reflected across Sigma’s leadership.

“This recognition underscores the powerful impact nurses have on individuals, families, and communities,” said Lucas M. Davis, MEd, CAE, Chief Executive Officer of Sigma Nursing. “At Sigma, we are proud to support nurses as leaders, scholars, and advocates who set the ethical standard for healthcare. This recognition belongs to every nurse whose dedication strengthens our profession and reinforces the confidence the public has in nursing.”

With more than 100,000 members in over 100 countries, Sigma Nursing remains committed to empowering nurses to lead, innovate, and transform healthcare globally. As the profession marks 24 years as the nation’s most trusted, Sigma celebrates the enduring impact of nurses—and the responsibility that comes with being the profession patients trust most.
