April was a busy and rewarding month, with trips to the Deans Annual Meeting (American Association of Colleges of Nursing), the AONL Annual Conference, and the National Student Nurses Association (NSNA) Convention. It was such an honor to meet Sigma members at each of these events, and once again, I was blown away by the incredible reach and impact of our global nursing community. The energy at NSNA, where more than 2,000 student nurses gathered, was absolutely contagious! It was so inspiring to engage with these bright, passionate current and future Sigma members.
Right after NSNA, Sigma and I joined in on the social media action figure trend. In case you missed it, here’s the AI-generated
Sigma Nursing action figure—and not to be outdone, here’s the
Luke Davis version, too. I loved seeing how many of you engaged with and shared these posts! If you haven’t connected with Sigma and me on social media yet, now’s the perfect time—click on the posts to join the fun and stay tuned for what’s next.
April wrapped up with a special celebration of Volunteer Week, and I want to take one more moment to express my heartfelt thanks to the hundreds of Sigma chapter leaders, regional coordinators, committee chairs, board members, and other volunteers around the world. Sigma simply wouldn’t be what it is without your leadership, dedication, and hard work. Thank you, Sigma volunteers!
Looking ahead, May brings exciting opportunities to celebrate and honor you during Nurses Week and International Nurses Day. This year, we proudly embrace the theme every moment, every nurse—because with every compassionate action you take and every stand you make for change, you strengthen lives and advance global nursing excellence. It’s in these countless moments—both seen and unseen —that you transform lives and help shape the future of healthcare, regardless of your title, specialty, or setting. You inspire me and all those you serve. Happy Nurses Week!
In June, the Sigma International Board of Directors will meet, and then in July, we’ll gather in Seattle for the 36th International Nursing Research Congress. This incredible event will bring together nurses from around the world to share groundbreaking research shaping the future of our profession. After reading about this year’s Emerging Nurse Researchers/Scholars and International Nurse Researcher Hall of Fame honorees, I have no doubt their presentations and insights will inspire all of us. There's still time to take advantage of early bird registration—I hope to see you in Seattle!
The Sigma board, staff, and I are also engaged in planning for Sigma’s 48th Biennial Convention in Indianapolis in November. Although that date may seem far in the future, preparations are well underway for the delegates who will conduct the official business of the organization and the more than 2,000 outstanding nurses who will attend from around the world. From the opening flag processional to the installation of the newly elected 2025-2027 Sigma board, I am looking forward to experiencing these meaningful experiences with you. Register early to secure your spot.
As always, I am sincerely grateful for your ongoing commitment to Sigma and to the advancement of the nursing profession. I look forward to the opportunity to connect with many of you in the weeks and months ahead and remain deeply appreciative of all that you do each and every day.
With gratitude,
Lucas M. Davis, MEd, CAE
