INDIANAPOLIS—Traditional health assessment case studies present information upfront, with the patient’s status
predetermined. While this is a helpful tool, it is not realistic. Unfolding health assessment case studies provide new information over time, thus improving the reader’s critical thinking and application of learning. In the second edition of
Unfolding Health Assessment Case Studies for the Student Nurse, authors Kristi Maynard and Andrea Adimando again present a highly-organized, practical text with helpful visuals and practice questions.
Early-career nursing students and prelicensure exam students will use this book as a guide to develop clinical judgment, which in turn increases the quality of care for their future patients. Readers will increase their comfort level and confidence in analyzing patient scenarios; gain a more in-depth knowledge of basic health assessment concepts; practice applying concepts; increase confidence answering NCLEX and NextGen-style questions; and increase their knowledge, skill level, and confidence in assessing and managing patients with diverse healthcare needs. The second edition also includes three new chapters that help students with the basics of the patient interview, gather and interpret vital signs, and introduces them to the mental status assessment.
In addition to the fully updated second edition, a new facilitator guide is also available. It provides a snapshot of the contents of each chapter along with recommendations for when each chapter might be most useful. To further enhance student learning and aid in developing an immersive lesson plan, discussion prompts and activities for each chapter are provided to enrich the classroom experience.
