NEW YORK, July 29, 2019 – Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing (Sigma), an organization committed to advancing world health and celebrating nursing excellence, and Jonas Philanthropies
, a nonprofit addressing high-need healthcare issues and audiences, are proud to announce the launch and call for applicants for the new Sigma/Jonas Philanthropies collaborative research grant
. The grant, created in memory of Jonas Philanthropies co-founder Barbara Jonas and supported by Jonas Philanthropies signature program, Jonas Nursing & Veterans Healthcare, and Sigma Foundation for Nursing, will help improve healthcare for the most vulnerable citizens in the United States by supporting the work and research of nurses focusing on the categories of mental health, rural health and veteran healthcare. Applications will be accepted through December 1, 2019. Recipients of three individual $10,000 grants (one per category) will be announced in April 2020, and funding will be awarded on June 1, 2020.
“We are thrilled to partner with Sigma to move toward a better future by supporting early career researchers and emerging leaders committed to the country’s underserved populations,” said Wanda Montalvo, PhD, RN, the Executive Director of Jonas Nursing and Veterans Healthcare
. “We look forward to receiving the applications of nursing scholars and working with them to advance their careers, research, and healthcare industry as a whole.”
“Sigma is proud to partner with Jonas Philanthropies to support nursing research that will improve the healthcare of these vulnerable populations,” said Sigma President Beth Baldwin Tigges, PhD, RN, PNP, BC
. “Through these new grants, qualified nurses will be able to continue changing lives and advancing healthcare through nursing research.”
Applicants must be registered nurses with a current license and doctoral nurse scholars (earned PhD, DNP, EdD, DNSc, PhD-DNP). The proposed research must address a pressing health care issue that impacts vulnerable citizens of the United States in the areas of Mental Health, Rural Health or Veterans Healthcare, including but not limited to underserved older adults and children. Special consideration will be given to Jonas Scholars and Sigma members.
Those interested are invited to submit a completed research application packet and signed research agreement via Sigma’s online submission system, which can be accessed here
Applicants must be ready to implement their research project when funding is received and complete the project within one year of that time. Ten percent of the grant will be withheld until the final report is submitted via the online system to Sigma. The final report, including a completed abstract, will be submitted to Sigma’s Virginia Henderson Global Nursing e-Repository and will be provided to Jonas Nursing and Veterans Healthcare, Executive Director and Grants Manager.
