Book demystifies health policymaking for nurses and healthcare providers

Authors guide nurses and healthcare providers in integrating evidence-based practice into health policy

INDIANAPOLIS — What happens in health policy at local, state, and federal levels directly affects patients, nurses, and nursing practice. It can be intimidating for healthcare providers to navigate the complex policy process or even know where to start implementing policy change.

Evidence-Informed Health Policy demystifies health policymaking and translates the evidence-based practice (EBP) language of clinical decision-making into an evidence-informed health policy (EIHP) model. Authors Jacqueline M. Loversidge, PhD, RNC-AWHC, and Joyce Zurmehly, PhD, DNP, RN, NEA-BC, ANEF, help readers develop a stronger understanding of policymaking and its role within government, learn strategies for influencing policymakers, and help shape future healthcare policy that makes the best use of evidence.

“Every nurse and healthcare professional have a responsibility to understand the current health policymaking environment,” said Loversidge. “It is time to bring the expertise that nurses and healthcare professionals have in evidence-based practice into their work in policy.”
