Virtual Mini Academy: Health Equity Training

The Sigma Virtual Mini Academy: Health Equity Training is a ten-week, interactive, mentored, virtual academy. It is designed to help healthcare professionals understand and practice diversity, equity, and inclusion through immersive video technology. This academy is designed to develop the motivation to change behaviors and hopefully nurse and patient outcomes. Sigma Nursing is partnering with Shift to bring you this new virtual and interactive mini academy.
Program dates for the current cohort
The academy launches on 31 March 2024. Scholars accepted into the Health Equity Training Virtual Mini Academy will participate in two live synchronous discussion session during week 5 and week 10 of the academy.
The sessions are scheduled on the following dates and times:
* Wednesday 24 April 2024 at 8 AM ET OR 4 PM ET (time zone converter)
* Wednesday 29 May 2024 at 8 AM or 4 PM ET (time zone converter)
NOTE: please plan to attend one of the options on each day.
The 10-week Virtual Mini Academy: Advancing Health Equity Training will address the following topics:
- Demystifying bias
- Discovery of personal values
- Equality, equity, or justice
- Empathy and belonging
- ... and many more
In this academy, Scholars can expect to:
- Increase their understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion and obtain the tools needed to practice them as a healthcare professional
- View brief multimedia lessons that easily fit into a busy schedule and receive tools to support ongoing success
- Openly discuss the academy materials with other Scholars
By the end of this 10-week academy, Scholars should have the motivation and the knowledge to change behaviors and improve nurse and patient outcomes.

What is the difference between Virtual Academy and the Virtual Mini Academy?
The Sigma Virtual Academy and the Sigma Virtual Mini Academy are both held over Zoom; however, there are a few important differences.
- The Virtual Mini Academy takes place over ten (10) weeks and is a more intense curriculum.
- The Virtual Mini Academy is designed for working practice professional that are looking to develop their skills to advance professionally.
