Board Leadership Institute Speaker Bios

brandon__BLIJohn Brandon
Brandon has over 40 years of experience in the youth development field as a youth worker, counselor, and an agency executive. He has led a number of community efforts focused on expanding services and supports for youth, especially those who are marginalized or underserved. He is an adjunct faculty member for the School of Public and Environmental Affairs at IUPUI at both the graduate and undergraduate level and serves on nonprofit boards of several community agencies.

harper_kimberly_BLIKimberly J. Harper, MS, RN
Kimberly J. Harper is the founding CEO of the Indiana Center for Nursing, which serves to united nursing education and practice as well as nursing organizations across the state to work through workforce issues of all levels. Recognition for her work in state and regional workforce issues has placed her at the national level where she currently serves as the Chair of the Board of Directors of the national Nurses on Boards Coalition.

lyons_deb_BLIDeborah J. Lyons, MSN, RN
Deborah J. Lyons is the Community Integration Executive Director at Community Health Network. She is the current President of the Indiana Organization of Nurse Executives and serves as a board member for Girl Scouts. Deborah is currently pursuing her DNP from the University of Indianapolis.

Deborah has 25 years of leadership experience in acute care, homecare, inpatient rehabilitation, hospital outpatient settings, and ambulatory settings, which gives her a unique viewpoint of the continuum.

mcbride_bliAngela Barron McBride, PhD, MSN, RN
Dr. McBride served as president of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing (Sigma), on the National Advisory Mental Health Council of the Alcohol, Drug Abuse, and Mental Health Administration, the advisory committee of NIH's Office of Research on Women's Health, as president of the American Academy of Nursing, and on the board of IU Health. She has been elected to the National Academy of Medicine and designated as a “Living Legend” by the American Academy of Nursing.

odle_bliSamuel L. Odle
Samuel L. Odle is a senior policy advisor for Bose Public Affairs Group. He works with clients on a variety of public policy issues involving healthcare, life sciences, technology, and education. Prior to this position, Odle served as COO of Indianapolis-based IU Health and CEO of both Methodist Hospital and University Hospital. He retired in July 2012 after a career that started as vice president of operations at Methodist Hospital in 1981.

Cynthia Vlasich is the Director, Global Initiatives at Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing (Sigma), having previously successfully led Educational Resources and Leadership at Sigma through an extensive period of growth and expansion. She provides direction for and leads initiatives to enhance the global recognition and reputation of Sigma. Cynthia has extensive global experience, is a frequently requested keynote/guest speaker, and a noted resource on board leadership, preparation, and membership.
