As we turn the calendar to September, I am mindful of an important milestone: my first full year as CEO of Sigma. It has been a year of listening, learning, and honoring the rich legacy of this organization while also imagining what we can build together for the future. Throughout it all, I have been moved by the dedication, expertise, and compassion of nurses across our global community. You are the heart of Sigma, and it is an honor to serve alongside you.
In this first year, I have seen Sigma at its very best: members lifting each other up, research changing the way care is delivered, partnerships crossing borders, and a shared determination to strengthen our profession. These moments remind me that our greatest strength is not just in what we do, but in how we do it together.
And we are laying the groundwork for an even stronger future by:
- Strengthening connections across regions, backgrounds, and career stages so that every nurse can find belonging and recognition within our community.
- Expanding opportunities for professional growth through enhanced member recognition programs, new virtual engagement experiences, and partnerships that support learning at every stage of a nurse’s career.
- Amplifying the voice of nursing on the global stage through collaboration at major international forums and advocacy that elevates the profession’s influence.
- Investing in our staff and systems, including bringing the entire team together for the first time in years at our IGNITE retreat to align our vision and priorities.
- Partnering with the Sigma Board of Directors to set bold strategies that will guide us in the years ahead.
What excites me most is that these achievements are steps toward a bigger vision. Together, we are building a Sigma that connects nurses worldwide, fuels career-long growth, strengthens our internal foundation, and speaks with a bold, united voice for the profession.
I love that Sigma’s history is rich with vision and values. Its present is filled with momentum and impact. And its future is being shaped by you—nurses advancing the profession with courage, compassion, and conviction. Thank you for your commitment to our mission and the trust you place in Sigma.
It has been an incredible first year, and we are only getting started. Together, we will continue to define the future of nursing and strengthen healthcare worldwide.
With deep appreciation,

Luke Davis
