STTI Statement on US President's Executive Order on Immigration

Since 1922, the Honor Society of Nursing, Sigma Theta Tau International (STTI) has embodied the attributes of our founders: love, courage, and honor. We pride ourselves on being a diverse, inclusive global organization that does not discriminate, and we firmly believe diversity in our membership makes us stronger. Although we are an apolitical organization, we take seriously our responsibility of ensuring a welcoming and respectful environment for our members worldwide.

In recent days, the US president issued an executive order on immigration that suspends new-refugee admissions for 120 days and blocks travelers from Iraq, Iran, Syria, Yemen, Sudan, Libya, and Somalia for 90 days. We recognize the implications for our members and others who may be affected by this action. We have been contacted by some of these members who are understandably concerned by this order and how it may affect their travels to the US, including to STTI events.

STTI will continue to monitor the situation, and we will remain a voice within the US and world in support of our core values, including diversity and inclusiveness, as we work collaboratively to fulfill our mission of advancing world health and celebrating nursing excellence in scholarship, leadership, and service.
