Dr. Tigges is an Associate Professor and Regents’ Professor at the University of New Mexico College of Nursing where she teaches quantitative research methods in the PhD program. She earned her BSN from Penn State, her MSN from Yale University, and a PhD in Public Health and Social Psychology from Columbia University. She is currently serving as the 2017-2019 President of Sigma.

2017-2019 Regional Chapters Coordinating Committee Chair

Dr. Gorton was a Scholar in the pilot cohort of Sigma’s Experienced Nurse Faculty Leadership Academy (ENFLA). She is currently the Assistant Dean of Undergraduate Programs at University of Colorado, Denver, and serves as Sigma’s Regional Chapters Coordinating Committee Chair.

2017-2019 Leadership Succession Committee Chair

Dr. Sherwood is Professor and former Associate Dean for Global Initiatives at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She was a leader of the Quality and Safety Education for Nurses (QSEN) project and is co-editor of four books award winning books. A dynamic leader, she served as President of the International Association for Human Caring and Vice President of Sigma. She currently serves Sigma as the Leadership Succession Committee Chair.


Liz Madigan

Chief Executive Officer, Sigma

Dr. Madigan assumed the Chief Executive Officer position of Sigma on 1 November 2017. Prior to this appointment, she was an endowed professor at the Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, USA. Her program of research focused on home healthcare, reflecting her clinical practice expertise. She also led global initiatives at the Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing and served on international and national panels for research and in-home healthcare.
