2023 Leadership Education Grant Recipients

Nurses from around the world received financial assistance to participate in the 34th International Nursing Research Congress in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. These 15 nurses were able to connect and engage with over 800 nurse researchers, students, clinicians, and leaders who are focused on evidence-based research.

Additionally, 18 nurses will receive financial assistance to attend the 47th Biennial Convention in November in San Antonio, Texas, USA. Because of donations to the leadership fund, more than 30 nurse leaders from nine countries and all global regions will receive assistance in 2023 to attend Sigma events.

Dues assistance provided to more than 300 members

Thanks to donors like you, more than 300 Sigma inductees were awarded membership subsidies during the 2023 fiscal year. These subsidies ensure nursing students and existing members facing financial hardships can continue to receive the benefits Sigma offers.

“The Edith Anderson Membership Subsidy provided me the opportunity to accept my invitation to join Sigma at a time when I could not afford membership dues. Entering my first few months as a Sigma member, I am now leading the OHSU La Grande Beta Psi Chapter through a campus-wide fundraiser in support of our community. 2023 Global Nursing Research Grant recipients

Congratulations to the Global Nursing Research Grant recipients for 2023! Dr. Seda Karakaya Cataldas is the principal investigator of the cross-country research team receiving the 2023 Global Nursing Research Grant for the project titled Exploring Knowledge, Attitudes, and Practices of Healthcare Providers in Addressing the Care Needs of Individuals who identify as LGBTQIA+: A Mixed-Method Study.

Dr. Cataldas, along with secondary investigator Dr. Joanna Anneke Rummens, will work with a team from Koc University in Turkey and Toronto Metropolitan Hospital in Canada. They will explore and examine healthcare providers' knowledge, implicit attitudes, practices, and experiences for the broader scientific community. The goal is to help inform future interventions to address attitudes, increase knowledge, and implement needed practices aimed at improving health equity for LGBTQIA+ individuals.

This grant is made possible through donations to the Patricia E. Thompson Nursing Research Fund.

2022-2023 Sigma Grant Recipients

With the support of donors to the research fund, 16 small grant research studies in four global regions are being funded in June from the Sigma Foundation for Nursing research permanent fund.

Sigma is celebrating 100 years on 5 October 2022! In preparation for such a monumental anniversary, the Foundation launched a 100th Anniversary Campaign during the 2019-2021 biennium that culminated at Sigma's 46th Biennial Convention. Thank you to all donors who supported nursing research, leadership, programs, and events through a donation of US $100 or more in recognition of Sigma's founding.
