Dorothy Brooten

The Dorothy Brooten Permanent Fund Established

Dr. Brooten established the Dorothy Brooten Permanent Fund to award a small nursing research grant because she knows small grants are essential in developing science and nurse scientists. In her words, “These grants provide direction for further research, provide investigators with confidence that others believe in their research, and provide opportunities to pilot methods, problem-solve hurdles, develop teams, work with institutional review boards, and publish and present study results.”

2019-2020 Small Research Grants Awarded

The 2019-2020 Small Research Grants recipients have been selected. Nurses will receive funding in June 2020 for studies that improve patient care. These grants are awarded annually thanks to donations designated research.

“The results may encourage the use of evidence effectively to influence the scientific foundation for clinical practice and the development of evidence-based policies that will prevent, manage and eliminate adverse events caused by NGT/NET-related incidents, and improve the quality and safety of care provided to hospitalized patients.”

100th Anniversary Campaign

Sigma is preparing to celebrate 100 years during the November 2021 Biennial Convention in Indianapolis, Indiana, USA! Leading up to this momentous event, the Sigma Foundation for Nursing has launched its 100th Anniversary Campaign. And Sigma President Richard Ricciardi is joining in by embracing the joy of giving as part of his presidential call to action, Infuse Joy. He invites all of us to infuse joy and celebrate Sigma through philanthropy.

You can honor Sigma’s Founders and be recognized as a 100th Anniversary Donor by donating US $100 this biennium. And continuing with tradition, your second donation of any amount will earn you a place in Richard Ricciardi’s President’s Circle.
