Psychological Capital: An Introduction to the What, Why, and Now What?

As nurses continue to manage the increasing demands, they should have a robust set of internal resources to help them be successful.

Psychological Capital (PsyCap) is a set of internal resources consisting of hope, efficacy, resiliency, and optimism—also known as HERO— that one can access to navigate personal and professional obstacles to achieve success and foster leadership growth. Because nurses hold a multidimensional and evolving role, serving as educators, change agents, leaders, and mentors, nurses often need to extend their bandwidth to meet the continuous challenges of their profession—irrespective of their practice setting. As nurses continue to manage the increasing demands, they should have a robust set of internal resources to help them be successful.
