An Update for the Sigma Nursing Community
Published on 22 October 2026
Sigma Nursing is in a period of transition. Members can find current, factual information about what is underway and what comes next. We want our members to have clear, current information about where things stand and what comes next.
Leadership
On 18 September 2026, Sigma’s Board of Directors voted unanimously to end the former CEO’s employment, effective immediately. Since then, Jason Allen, who previously served as Chief Membership & Volunteer Engagement Officer, has led day-to-day operations as interim CEO alongside Dr. Kristi Reguin-Hartman, Chief Nursing Officer. Both report directly to the Board and meet with it regularly.
Search for an interim CEO
Sigma Nursing engaged Kirby Bates Associates, a national healthcare leadership firm, to lead the search for an interim CEO. The search launched on 5 October 2026, and the Board is working to identify an experienced nurse leader who aligns with Sigma’s mission and can help guide the organization through this period.
Restorative justice and independent review of Sigma
On 2 October 2026, Sigma engaged Christina Parle Education & Consulting to conduct an independent review of the organization’s policies, practices, governance, and culture. This restorative justice work is of the utmost importance to Sigma leadership to listen, better understand the experiences of our community, repair relationships, and rebuild trust. The review is independent of Sigma’s leadership and will report its findings to the board.
Moving forward
While this work is underway, Sigma’s mission continues every day. We remain focused on supporting nurses and advancing nursing on a global scale through chapter programs, inductions, events, and service.
That includes professional development opportunities for nurses at every stage of their careers. The Global Advocacy Virtual Mini Academy, a six-week program led by a Sigma UN liaison, begins on 27 October 2026. Sigma also offers free webinars throughout the year, and planning is underway for the 38th International Nursing Research Congress in Dublin, Ireland (16–18 July 2027) and the 49th Biennial Convention in Denver, Colorado, USA (29 October–1 November 2027). Explore upcoming events and webinars.
We know trust is rebuilt through action over time. We are committed to learning from this work and will continue to share updates as there is meaningful information to share.
