The Honor Society of Nursing, Sigma Theta Tau International (STTI) will be collecting sanitary hygiene supplies for school-aged girls during the 27th International Nursing Research Congress in Cape Town. If you are attending congress, please consider bringing sanitary hygiene supplies to donate.
Immediate Past STTI President Hester C. Klopper has founded the BUSA SERITI (“restore dignity”) project to contribute in any way to the education of girls in South Africa. Part of its mission includes distributing free sanitary towels and hygienic products to girls in need who might normally miss school during menstruation.
“Many of us take for granted that we can get and use the sanitary supplies we need,” said Dr. Klopper, “but in South Africa, we estimate that 30 to 50 percent of girls miss school every month during menstruation due to lack of access to sanitary products. If you are attending the 27th International Nursing Research Congress, you can help keep a girl in school by bringing a package of sanitary supplies.”
Donating is easy! Throughout the Cape Town International Convention Centre, STTI will have collection containers where attendees can deposit sanitary supplies (menstrual pads or tampons), as well as toothpaste, soap, and toothbrushes – all items of value to girls in need.
It is important to note the Westin Cape Town, our event hotel, will be matching the STTI donation with an additional group of supplies. Because of their generosity, we ask that you please do not remove toiletries from your hotel room to place in the collection bins.
Thank you in advance for your contribution to BUSA SERITI and for helping keep South African girls in school!
