Beth Baldwin Tigges, PhD, RN, PNP, BC, is President-Elect of the Honor Society of Nursing, Sigma Theta Tau International (STTI) (2015-2017). Over the past 25 years, she has served in numerous STTI international and chapter positions. As STTI Vice President and member of the Executive Committee (2013-2015), she provided strategic leadership of STTI and led development of performance indicators for our strategic plan. As Board Director (2007-2011), she participated in development of the new global, regional structure; STTI’s first virtual chapter; and piloting of the first office outside of North America. As International Governance Committee Chair (2003-2007), she led development of more flexible chapter eligibility guidelines to promote success of chapters worldwide. During two terms as Region I Coordinator (1993-1997), she coordinated over 50 chapters in a region that spanned five countries and nine time zones. As a chapter president and vice president, she developed a keen understanding of chapter operations.
Dr. Tigges is an Associate Professor and Regents’ Professor at the University of New Mexico College of Nursing in the US, where she teaches quantitative research methods in the PhD program. She has been funded as a Principal Investigator or Co-Investigator on multiple US National Institutes of Health initiatives, including the US National Children’s Study; and Director of Evaluation and member of the Executive Leadership Committee for the University of New Mexico Clinical and Translational Science Center. She is Co-Chair of the Program Evaluators’ Group and Co-Chair of the Developing Measures of Collaboration Workgroup for the US National Institutes of Health Clinical and Translational Science Consortium. Dr. Tigges earned her BSN from Pennsylvania State University, her MSN as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner from Yale University, and a PhD in Public Health and Social Psychology from Columbia University in the US.
Dr. Tigges became Sigma President in November 2017 at the 44th Biennial Convention in Indianapolis, Indiana, USA.
