Maternal-Child Health Nurse Leadership Academy (MCHNLA) Call for Applications

INDIANAPOLIS — The Honor Society of Nursing, Sigma Theta Tau International (STTI) is accepting applications through 14 December 2017 for its Maternal-Child Health Nurse Leadership Academy (MCHNLA). STTI’s International Leadership Institute administers the academy mentoring program in partnership with Johnson & Johnson Corporate Contributions.

The MCHNLA is an outcomes-focused, highly selective 18-month leadership development experience that pairs maternal-child health nurses and nurse midwives with experienced Leadership Mentors. The academy prepares these nurses for effective interprofessional team leadership as they strive to improve the quality of healthcare for underserved childbearing women and children up to 5 years old. Since 2004, more than 125 mentor/mentee pairs from over 35 states and two provinces in North America have participated in the academy.

“Maternal-child health nurses are important providers on the frontlines of care for the most vulnerable moms and babies”, says Frank Rodriguez, Director for North America, J&J Global Community Impact. “We are proud to partner with STTI on this premier leadership development initiative that will make an important systemic impact in healthcare delivery and improve health outcomes for more patients.”

“As a global organization that brings together top-performing nurses in all disciplines of the profession, STTI is dedicated to providing care to vulnerable populations,” said STTI President Cathy Catrambone, PhD, RN, FAAN. “Fellows of the Maternal-Child Health Nurse Leadership Academy achieve significant professional growth during their academy participation. The impact that their work has on this population is outstanding.”

For more than 90 years, STTI has honored the best and brightest women and men in nursing. The honor society provides its members with exclusive programs, resources, and opportunities such as those offered through the International Leadership Institute, including the Maternal-Child Health Nurse Leadership Academy.

Prospective mentor/mentee pairs may submit applications for the Maternal-Child Health Nurse Leadership Academy cohort through 14 December 2017. The 2018-2019 cohort will begin in March 2018.
